NNPA fellows set of areas and aspirations of Black America

The National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) commends the dedication, vigilance and vitality your eight Discover the Unexpected NNPA Journalism Fellows: Brandi Montgomery, Brelaun Douglas, Briahnna Brown, McKenzie Marshall, Victoria Jones, Rushawn Walters, Tatyana Hopkins and Sidnee King.

Over september, the NNPA Fellows were inside streets in Chicago, La, Detroit, Atlanta, Washington, DC, Houston, Cleveland and Philadelphia reporting in news reports that could change up the quality of life of African Americans.

Thanks to your academic and professional guidance on the Howard University School of Communications, the NNPA benefited strategically from experienceing the group of talented millennials when the first gang of undergraduate student fellows in 2016. This kind of fellowship program was developed possible through the generous support of Chevrolet.


Brelaun Douglas

I witnessed firsthand the diligence of a lot of the NNPA Fellows on the NNPA National Convention in Houston in June possibly at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia yesterday. During both events, I observed the fellows thirst and fervour for gathering what is the news and also for reporting their insights and perspectives to Black America.

Today we have been challenged by numerous issues on voting rights, politics, education, healthcare, employment, housing, economic development and criminal justice re form. Yet, the aspirations of Black America to push for more progress, justice and equality weren’t diminished or reduced actually.


Rushawn Walters

In Cleveland along at the Republican National Convention, and for the DNC in Philadelphia, the needs of Black America for fairness, respect, justice, and equal opportunity were well articulated and reported in the Black Press across America. It was actually inspiring to find out young activist journalists, videographers, podcasters, bloggers, and photographers work with enthusiasm and zeal.


Victoria Jones

This lindsey stirling represents next thing from the relationship between Chevrolet and also the NNPA, allowing our Chevrolet brand to support shape and aid the next generation of Black journalists and publishers, said Michelle Alexander, General Motors Diversity Marketing Manager. These young, aspiring journalists had the oppertunity to obtain hands-on experience and guidance from the leading publishers in our communities.


Tatyana Hopkins

Briahnna Brown affirmed, I am grateful to both Chevrolet and also the NNPA in my opportunity with DTU, who has enabled me to consider lessons from your experience and professionalism of your top minority publishers near you to tell stories which are often overlooked within the communities I represent.

Recently in Washington, DC, NNPA Fellow Victoria Jones reported within the fact that African America iconic leaders to express their success stories and journeys with young emerging activists and leaders in the communities through the country. Joness news feature title was Icon Talks Event Celebrates Ebony Success.


Sidnee King

Media mogul Cathy Hughes, civil rights leader Reverend Jesse Jackson and actor Omari Hardwick were honored and saluted at the Icon Talks event in the Mead Center for American Theater. Jones explained, The performances and conversations.. explored paths to success and provided a platform to engage, entertain, and inspire.

We will enjoy the next phase with the Identify the Unexpected (DTU) Fellowship Program using the NNPA. Once we face the future, were more determined and assured that we will go on to advance the reason behind freedom, justice and equality. The Black Press of America will remain at the vanguard with the global movement to alter the continent and world right into a better position for all.
